Overview CTET December 2024

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) December 2024 notification. This examination is a mandatory qualification for teachers who aspire to work in Classes I to VIII across various schools in India.

Minimum Educational Qualifications

For Paper I (Primary Stage: Classes I to V)

Candidates must fulfill one of the following criteria to apply for Paper I:

  1. Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.).

  2. Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.), as per the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations.

  3. Graduation with a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.).

  4. Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.).

  5. Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education).


For Paper II (Elementary Stage: Classes VI to VIII)

Candidates must fulfill one of the following criteria to apply for Paper II:

  1. Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.).

  2. Graduation with at least 45% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.), as per the NCTE Regulations.

  3. Senior Secondary (or equivalent) with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.).

  4. Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.).

  5. Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appearing in the final year of 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education).


Age Limit CTET December 2024

There is no specific upper age limit to appear for CTET. Candidates of any age can apply as long as they meet the educational qualifications.


Relaxation in Marks for Reserved Categories

  • For candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), and Differently Abled categories, a relaxation of 5% is provided in the minimum qualifying marks.
  • For example, if the required percentage is 50%, the candidate from reserved categories needs to have only 45% marks.

Important Notes

  1. Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed.) or Bachelor in Education (B.Ed.) must be from a recognized institution.

  2. Candidates who are in the final year of their education programs (such as D.El.Ed., B.Ed., B.El.Ed., etc.) can also apply, but they must ensure that their course completion happens before the results are declared.

  3. Candidates with a Diploma in Education (Special Education) or Bachelor of Education (Special Education) can apply, provided the course is recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI).


Additional Eligibility for Teachers of Special Education

For candidates intending to apply as Special Education Teachers:
They should possess one of the following qualifications:

  • Diploma in Special Education
  • Bachelor’s in Special Education
  • Any other equivalent qualification recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI).

Clarification on Eligibility

  • The CTET qualification does not guarantee employment. It only serves as an eligibility criterion for appointment as a teacher in government schools, including those under the Central Government (KVS, NVS, etc.) and State Governments (depending on the state’s policy).

  • Candidates should ensure that they fulfill the eligibility criteria before applying for the examination. The CTET certificate only confirms the eligibility, not the guarantee of a job.


Salary CTET December 2024

Teachers appointed through CTET certification typically earn ₹35,000–₹60,000 per month, depending on the institution and state norms.


Exam Structure and Syllabus

  1. Paper I: For candidates intending to teach Classes I-V (Primary Teachers).
  2. Paper II: For candidates intending to teach Classes VI-VIII (Upper Primary Teachers).

Each paper includes sections on Child Development, Mathematics, Language Proficiency, and Subject Pedagogy.


Selection Procedure

The selection process involves a multiple-choice question (MCQ) test with no negative marking. Candidates scoring 60% or above will be awarded the CTET certificate, valid for a lifetime.
