Dholavira was perhaps one of the largest cities, situated on the Island of the Rann of Kachah. It was divided into three parts, unlike other cities of the Harappan Civilization. The most important feature of this city was an impressive wall, made up of mud, brick, and stone, with gateways, like we see in many forts. The wall also featured Indus inscriptions engraved on these gateways. The middle part of the city, known as the middle town, had a large open area probably for public celebrations, like our present-day stadium. Like in other Harrapan cities, the authorities here also paid attention to water supply for the towns through wells and tanks.
Lothal was situated near the river Sabarmati close to the Gulf of Kambhat. Historians believe that it was probably a factory site, as a storehouse with many seals had been discovered there. Also, a workshop where tools for carving stones along with half-finished beads has been found here. The city had a dockyard, which was probably used for trading goods from other Civilizations.
